Matted dog hair/coats pulls and binds, causing pain to your pet when they move
or lay on the mattes. The skin underneath is usually raw and inflamed. Matted
hair/coats will not dry properly and can lead to rotting fur and skin. Due to
matting, pet’s hair may have to be shaved extremely short to the skin (clipper
blade is so close to the skin, nicks and cuts are likely to occur) and may show
signs of skin irritation and sores due to matting. Pets that have not been
groomed often enough usually result in long, stressful, or painful grooming
sessions. Most dogs never recover from that experience. Which explains why
they bite out of fear if being handled. Due to this nature, we do not have the
heart to accept excessively matted dogs and let alone watch as they go through
the pain and suffering during the dematting process. We will leave that to a vet’
s care where the pet is likely to be sedated during the shave down process.  




Mattes and knots are not the same thing! A knot is small clump of fur that has
become tightly tangled. Mattes are knots that have become so tightly clumped
that the fur is bound right down to the skin. Knots can often be combed or
brushed out or, if needed, cut out safely. Mattes cannot be brushed out they are
a solid mass of fur. The only way to safely and humanely remove a matte is to
shave the area. In the case of extensive mattes, this can mean shaving down
the whole dog.




We PREFER to "style", but practicality rules the day for most owners. We have
clients that neglect their dog's grooming needs and it's heart breaking to
continuously see these poor dogs in such shape, but we could never refuse
service to them, unless it is beyond help and they will need to see a vet where
they are likely to be sedated to shave down the bad mats. We do it for the dog,
and we know we'll do a proper job because we at 4 Paws Whisperer truly cares a
great deal about their welfare.

Vanity VS Health? We do not take in mangy, dirty and flea infested dogs and
turn them into show dogs. GOOD groomers are not necessarily the ones who do
the best styles, but the ones who put the dogs welfare above all else.
